MAKOTO FUJIMURA: THE FOUR HOLY GOSPELS
ONE OF THE FINEST ABSTRACT PAINTERS AT WORK TODAY, and a Christian, Makoto Fujimura has illuminated a magnificent folio of the four Gospels, timed to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James version of the Bible.
We highly recommend the Fujimura folio as a worthwhile addition to any collection. We also highly recommend a visit to his website at the link above, where you will discover a deliciously well-produced video about the work.
The video addresses Fujimura’s creative process, provides fascinating glimpses of the master at work, and presents a compelling indictment of the modern art world’s bias against the expression of religious faith in art.
Both folio and video are essential viewing for everyone with an interest in the relationship between Christianity and the arts.

I would like Mr. Fujimura’s address to the class of 2011 if possible if you cannot pull my letter up. He is genius, and I would like a copy of his Commencement Address.Pamela Lovitt Sandel
Feb26Matty B I was being humorous about the clnwos. A child laughing at clnwos expression is a beautiful thing. I’m sure Cirque De Sole and Barnum and Bailey bringing joy through theatrical arts could hardly qualify as ugly . However, without absolute definition of beauty you tread on dangerous grounds. It reminds me of this story:Ravi Zacharias, before speaking at a University in Ohio, visited the first completely post modern art museum. He was told by the person giving him the tour that everything about the building was purposeless; stairs that go nowhere, doors that open to nothing, totally random! Since life has no ultimate meaning then how can art? But, after the tour he posed this question to the person giving him the tour; Did you construct the foundation of the building that way as well? Certainly, they did not. Without absolute standards in art pornography can become beautiful, self-mutilation can become beautiful, a child being executed can become beautiful etc. In art, without absolute standards (that which is objectively good, that which is objectively beautiful) beauty is left to the eye of the beholder. What a dangerous lie.
