Penn (of Penn & Teller) On Why Atheists Are Humble

Must Christians and atheists always be at each other’s throats? Penn Jillette doesn’t think so. In fact, he has some very nice things to say about believers in this NPR interview.
The interview was done to promote Jillette’s new book, God, No! which he bills as an atheist’s ten commandments. The intro to the interview also hints that Penn believes it’s possible to believe in God yet still be an atheist, a premise we have some trouble following. But Penn did get his start in magic, of course, so there must be a trick answer somehow.
He also explains that atheists get a bad rap as egotistical, when in fact the opposite is true. They’re the ones who admit they don’t know how the world was made, while religious types insist they have it all figured out.
Ahem.
While we take exception with Jillette on one or two points, we heartily applaud his attitude toward those with whom he disagrees.
