Chess Pieces Shaped Like The Moves They Make

Alessa Mazzarella's Chess PiecesHere’s a fun idea, especially for teaching chess to kids. Alessia Mazzarella has designed chess pieces that look like the moves they make. Knights are “L” shaped. Rooks look like a “+” and so on.

We like Alessia’s philosophical spin on the design as well:

“The core idea is pretty straightforward: what lasts is what we do and not what we are. That’s why I abandoned the common shapes of the king, queen, rooks, bishops, knights and pawns and replaced them with their moves.”
