Did Christians Invent Sin?

A growing misconception is being promulgated among atheists: the notion that sin is nothing more than a Christian invention. In a simple yet powerful column at The Washington Times link above, Vasko Kohlmayer rebuts this error.

Kohlmayer gives several examples of the concept of sin in other religions, including ancient Mesopotamian beliefs that predate Christianity by more than a thousand years. He then observes: ”The non-existence of sin may be a comforting illusion, but the sting of conscience punctures it every time we feel guilt after having lied, cheated or stolen. The question is not whether sin exists, but what we are going to do about it.”

For many Christians, this may seem like an article about the obvious, but among a general population which is more and more unchurched, we must often begin with the basics when it comes to sharing God’s love through the gospel.
