Hurricane Irene to hit New YorkHurricane Irene, a category 1 storm, is predicted to hit New York City late Saturday or early Sunday. The mass transit system is scheduled to close at noon on Saturday, and bridges will close if winds exceed 60 miles per hour. 370,000 New Yorkers have been ordered to evacuate. Officials believe most of them are remaining, in spite of Mayor Bloomberg’s comment that, “This is a life- threatening storm to people here. Staying behind is dangerous, staying behind is foolish and it’s against the law.”
